Campus placements- Companies visit the institutions, connect with the placement cells of the colleges, the placement cell coordinates with the students, and direct recruitment takes place upon the completion of the degree. Students begin their jobs.
Off-campus placements are a placement system where students apply by themselves to different companies by keeping track of the advertisements published by companies, and then appear in interviews by themselves to secure a job.
Broadly, if we see that there is a perception that on-campus placements are better. However, there are some pointers that draw a perfect distinction between them, which are as follows-

Salary packages- In terms of salary packages, campus placements are considered to be high, especially in the best colleges of the country, as they offer more CTC than off-campus jobs, where there is a greater need for negotiation.

Opportunities- In terms of opportunities, the placement cells in the campus placement system actively work to bring in diverse opportunities for the students. However, off campus, there is no limit to what you can search and find. Hence, opportunities are in no short supply, but the need is to focus appropriately.

Accessibility- Campus placements are only for the students who get themselves enrolled with the placement cells of the college. However, there is no limit on off-campus placements as they are open to all eligible candidates.

Competition- There is less competition in the case of campus placements because the competition is restricted to your batch only. However, if we see the case of off-campus placements, you don't even know who your competitors are. Extra effort is needed to perform well in off-campus placements.

Convertibility- It is easier to convert a placement opportunity into an offer letter in the case of campus placements, as the recruiter is already aware of your background. However, convertibility is relatively low in the case of off-campus opportunities.

Focus area for the recruiter- Under the on-campus placement system, recruiters value the college brand value as they are already attracted by the name of the college, and also the CGPA obtained in classes does matter. Off-campus recruiters are more interested in hiring skilled people with a good amount of experience in a similar role they are recruiting for. Just a high CGPA doesn't matter much in the case of outside-the-campus placement.

Reality check: Campus placements are easy to approach, as there is a social validation involved, and you feel less anxious about the results. However, outside the campus, job search may be psychologically daunting as it may involve rejections and a lot of delays.
Campus placements are the right start to your corporate journey, and they are relatively more comfortable than placements outside the campus.
However, once you get out of college, in the future, you will have to make use of the off-campus recruitment system.
Hence, ultimately, what matters more is how much value you bring to the organisation in terms of skills and experiences.
