1. Computer Science Engineering
Computer science engineering is considered the favourite choice to pursue after class 12th in the engineering field.
Subjects like programming, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and cloud infrastructure are taught to the students of Computer Science and Engineering.
A student can become a software engineer, data analyst, artificial intelligence or cybersecurity engineer.
2. Mechanical Engineering
It is one of the traditional and highly reputed specializations which has been in constant demand.
It is one of the core engineering branches where subjects like material science, production engineering and principles of thermodynamics are taught very well.
3. Electrical Engineering
An electrical engineer works with electricity, functioning with the help of an understanding of how power systems work.
Graduates of electrical engineering have a good scope to work in the government and public sector undertakings.
4. Civil Engineering
It is an evergreen specialisation which has always been in demand as it involves the construction of new infrastructure.
A civil engineer has options to join both the private and government sectors, as the need for civil engineers is everywhere.
5. Electronics & Communication Engineering
Electronic and communication engineering is a blend of knowledge of communication technology and electronics. It is one of the core engineering specialisations with wide applications.
6. Information Technology
Engineering coupled with IT is the best combination to pursue after class 12th. Subjects like databases, web technology and networking are taught to the students. It is a very practical, oriented specialisation which leads to real skill development.
7. Biotechnology Engineering
It is a relatively new and growing specialisation. The Government of India has also been exploring its applications to diverse sectors, so it can be said that the future scope of biotechnology is bright.
Subjects such as molecular biology and genetic engineering form a good chunk of the syllabus.
8. Aeronautical Engineering
Aeronautical engineers deal with aircraft and their functions. It is a sophisticated but very prestigious engineering field.
The scope to get a government job in organisations like ISRO and DRDO is quite high.
What is the Eligibility?
Students who qualify for the Class 10 + 2 examination, having studied subjects like physics, chemistry, mathematics, or even biology, are eligible to apply.
Second Main criteria is qualifying JEE Main or Advanced as required by different institutions.
Some state universities and private Institutions can conduct their own entrance exams
Fees
The typical fee range for a government engineering college is around 50k to 2 lakhs per year. However, private colleges may charge up to 3 to 5 lakhs per year.
Scope
The scope of the Engineering field has always been high and is going to be high as India needs more engineers for its rapid development.
Students who study subjects including mathematics at the class 10 + 2 level can choose one of the engineering branches depending on their areas of interest and career prospects.
