Management versus engineering has always been in a constant debate, but before understanding what is best for you, let's first understand what they actually are.
About Management?
Pursuing management means doing BBA, MBA, and similar courses. Subjects such as business studies, Business economics, marketing, Human Resource Management, accounting, and Finance are taught.
Students who wish to become future managers pursue management where they apply the learnt skills.
About Engineering?
Pursuing engineering means doing a B.Tech. or a similar diploma. There are various branches of engineering, like mechanical, computer science, and electrical.
Engineering requires students to have a good grip on science and mathematics. It is generally pursued by Science with non-medical (PCM) students.
Which one is Better For You?
There is no perfect answer to this question, which field out of Engineering and Management is better for every student, because it is a decision that is based on the following factors-
-
Interest area of the student- If you are somebody who would love to read subjects like finance, economics, and business, you would enjoy management. However, if you want to explore further the science behind everything around us, then you should go for engineering.
-
Curiosity- if you are curious about machine software and everything going on around artificial intelligence, choose engineering. However, if you want to see yourself as a manager in a top company in the next 5 years, then choose management.
-
Skill versus People- An engineer is required to develop a particular skill set in order to pursue the occupation. However, management offers much flexibility as it involves dealing with people.
However, if you are still confused about which to choose, then there is a unique pathway which is as follows:-
Choose engineering after class 12th, and after graduation, pursue an MBA. In this way, you can integrate both engineering and management.
After blending both the subject areas, you will be academically in a much better position than your counterparts.
Consider the following facts when making the decision between management and engineering-
-
Check whether you enjoy subjects like mathematics, Physics, or talking about business ideas, planning, and organising.
-
Analyse where your strength lies and whether you perform good subjects of Engineering or management.
-
Understand your long-term career goals, that is, where you want to be in the next 5 years, and choose accordingly.
It is a fact that both fields provide a rich dividend to the students who put in the required amount of effort.
Whatever field you choose, you should make sure that you extract the most out of it to make a successful career.
